From Thursday the 7th of July until Sunday 10th of July the international squash youth is gathering in Amsterdam for the 34th edition of the Dutch Junior Open, the prestigious tournament for youth in the age of 8 to 19 years. On the second day of the tournament all players, including the top seeds, compete in their second round, quarter final or even semi-finals.
The first top seeded player, Malek Ahmed from Egypt, started off the morning as the first match of the day. Ahmed, active in the boys under 11 category, faced Nestor Saplashenko [9/15] and was able to win in three games. In the boys under 15 category Maddox Moxham played his match against the American Rohan Gupta [9/16]. Moxham, seeded as number one was able to bring the victory home. The Belgium player will now face Kareem Azeem later today in the semi-finals.
The Indian Anahat Singh is the favorite squasher in the girls under 15 to win the title. In her quarter final she was able to conquer Zhe Sim Ong [33/50] from Singapore who reached the quarter finals after she won over the higher seeded Grace Lodge [17/32]. The biggest upsets in the morning came from Shunsaku Kariyazono [17/32], the Japanese youngster is active in the boys under 15 and was able to win over Priyaan Thakker [3/4] from India in less than 45 minutes. Another surprise was the victory of Mahmoud Ahmed [9/16] who won from Adrian Revert Escutia [3/4] from Spain in three games.
